In the September 2025 issues of MRO 360°, Ian Foster, Operations Director & MRO at APOC, spoke to David Dundas about PMA (Parts Manufacturer Approval) parts and DER (Designated Engineering Representative) repairs.

Foster considers these two alternatives to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts and repairs, and addresses misconceptions that they compromise on quality and safety. The reality, he explains, is that these options are strictly regulated by aviation authorities such as the FAA and EASA.

“The availability of PMA parts in terms of both quality and acceptability has significantly increased over the last decade,” voices Foster. “APOC Aviation notes that PMA manufacturers are now using advanced materials, precision machining and digital design to ensure performance is equal to or exceeds OEM materials.”
